The Quaker Housing Trust offers advice, support, grants and interest-free loans to grassroots housing organisations across England, Scotland and Wales to help them provide safe, decent and affordable homes for people of all ages who are 'often in desperate need' of housing.
This includes:
- People with mental and physical health problems.
- People with learning difficulties.
- People who would otherwise be homeless.
- Women escaping domestic violence.
- Single parents.
- Young families.
- People moving out of institutional care.
- People with addiction problems.
- Refugees, asylum seekers, migrants.
- Survivors of trafficking.
Until the end of 2024, there is particular interest in projects from areas geographically underrepresented in previous grant applications (Wales and the East of England) and minoritised communities.
Charitable organisations with an annual turnover of up to £1 million and without access to sufficient income, reserves, nor other fundraising, to pay for the work they want to do can apply for:
- Best Practice Grants - up to £6,000 to pay for professional fees associated either with an environmental assessment or testing the feasibility of specific proposals to improve, expand or create new genuinely affordable rented housing.
- Main Grants and interest free loans - up to £50,000 for a mixture of grants and loans. Up to £25,000 for grants.
In addition, the Trust provides match funding to Quaker meetings, organisations and charities to test the feasibility of using part or all of a Quaker own property for social housing on its own, or alongside the creation of modern convenient buildings for use by Quakers.
There are five funding rounds per year.
The remaining deadline for 2024 application is 13 November for a decision on 13 December 2024.
