Active Travel Fund Offers Grants to Support Walking, Cycling and Wheeling

Small to medium-sized businesses and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in England can apply for the Active Travel Innovation Fund, which provides a share of £1 million in revenue funding. The programme aims to support projects that develop, deliver or scale interventions to increase walking, wheeling and cycling.

Grants of up to £100,000 are available for initiatives that improve access to active travel, particularly for underrepresented groups, including women and girls, ethnic minority communities, children, people with disabilities and those who are less physically active. Eligible projects may involve community initiatives, partnerships between local authorities and businesses or digital tools to enhance safety and accessibility.

Applicants can be sole traders, partnerships, limited liability partnerships, companies, charities, Community Interest Companies or consortia, provided all partners meet the eligibility criteria. Lead organisations must qualify as small or medium-sized enterprises with fewer than 250 employees. While applicants may be registered anywhere in the UK, interventions must be fully delivered in England.

Funded projects can be new or scaled approaches focused on engagement and behaviour change. Funding can be used for materials and small items to support project development, delivery and evaluation.

In addition to financial support, successful applicants will receive practical assistance, including help with partnerships, stakeholder engagement and measuring project outcomes.

The deadline for applications is 14 November 2025 (12:00).
