Sylvia Copley

SC

Sylvia has over 40 years' experience working in the voluntary sector and local authorities in Early Years education, Sure Start, children and family services. She has held several senior leadership positions and has experience of working on regional and national programmes and government initiatives.

She is passionate about children's rights, the urgent need to eradicate Child Poverty, community work and developing services that help people of all ages understand their rights and how to use that knowledge to improve their lives.

She joined Shiney Advice and Resource Project (ShARP) as Chief Executive Officer in 2015. ShARP is a registered charity and membership organisation based in the Coalfield area of Sunderland. As a community anchor ShARP provides a wide range of community based services for local people. ShARP specialises in the provision of accessible welfare rights, benefits and debt advice delivered across the city funded through contracts and grants from local, regional and national funders.

One of the key steps that Sylvia took on joining ShARP was to start the process for the charity to become an accredited Living Wage employer, one of the first Living Wage employers in the city in 2017. As a member of the Sunderland Living Wage Action Group, she has been an active supporter of the drive to make Sunderland a Living Wage city.

Sylvia is an active supporter in the development of SVSA and in driving forward the organisation to realise the benefits that it will bring to the sector.

She is proud to be part of the wider partnership in Sunderland working together to make Sunderland a great place to live.
