Marie joined the team in September 2024 and brings experience from the public, private and third sectors. She began her career in community arts development in County Durham and then Gateshead - supporting people to be brave in exploring issues that affected them, to try different creative experiences, amplify voices through arts and culture and facilitate engaging events and activities.
It was her love for working with volunteers and communities and seeing the transformative power of volunteering, that enticed her to subsequently lead a large team of volunteers for a high-profile north-east heritage building for 8 years, where she was lucky enough to work alongside over 700 passionate and committed volunteers in more than 100 different roles.
For the last few years Marie has worked in local volunteering infrastructure support in Tyneside, using her hands-on knowledge and experience of working with people to support volunteer involving organisations and individual volunteers to achieve positive outcomes.
With many years of experience working with community members of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, perceptions, and with varied and complex life stories, she works to advocate volunteering, raise standards through best practice and highlight the value that volunteers can bring.
