Locality, who manage this programme for the Government, has announced the deadline for both grant and technical support applications for this financial year (2024-25) is 31 January 2025 (5pm). All grants must be spent on or before 31 March 2025.
Town and parish councils, neighbourhood forums and prospective neighbourhood forums who are preparing a neighbourhood development plan or neighbourhood development order in England still have some time to apply for the following:
- A basic grant of between £1,000 and £10,000 for groups writing a neighbourhood plan or neighbourhood development order.
- An additional grant of up to £8,000 is available for groups facing more complex issues, giving a maximum total amount of £18,000.
- Specific packages of technical support where needed.
The programme is particularly keen to help ambitious groups, from all types of neighbourhoods, who want to really influence how their place grows and changes going into the future.
Eligible applicants must be based in England.
The funding is for costs associated with developing a neighbourhood plan or a neighbourhood development order and can be used for a number of different things, including but not limited to:
- Training sessions for members of the steering group.
- Help with putting together a project plan.
- Help with developing the evidence base and analysing it to identify issues and aims for the plan or order.
- Undertaking a housing survey.
- Engaging a facilitator to help with capacity building, for community consultation or workshops.
- Developing a website.
- Costs associated with planning and undertaking public engagement and consulting on the plan or order.
- Engaging a planning expert to help draft policies.
- Contribution to undertaking a strategic environmental assessment (SEA).
Groups who are not able to submit an application before the end of January may be able to apply later in 2025. The Government has indicated its commitment to supporting neighbourhood planning and it is anticipated that a further application round will open from July 2025. Full details on funding for 2025/26 will be provided when they become available.
The deadline for 2024/25 applications is 31 January 2025 (5pm).
