Innovate UK has opened a new round of its Accelerated Knowledge Transfer Competition (AKT4) offering support for projects aimed at addressing drug and alcohol addiction. The initiative will fund short, targeted collaborations between eligible research institutions and business partners.
Up to £2 million has been allocated for this round in partnership with the Office for Life Sciences. Each project can receive a grant of up to £35,000 to support interventions that develop or evaluate innovation with potential impact on treatment, recovery, harm reduction or prevention for those affected by addiction.
To be eligible, the lead organisation must be a UK-registered higher or further education institution, research and technology organisation or Catapult. Projects must involve collaboration with a UK-registered business, public sector body, charity or charitable business with at least four full-time employees.
The funding supports knowledge exchange activity to either establish new partnerships or build on existing collaborations. Projects must demonstrate a clear focus on accelerating innovation related to addiction challenges.
The deadline for applications is 2 July 2025 (11:00).
