Funding to Support Communities Across Northeast England

Sir James Knott Trust is offering grants for registered charities, community groups, and social enterprises across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland, County Durham, and Hartlepool, to deliver projects and activities that improve the conditions of people living and working in the Northeast of England.

The Trust will support projects that address the following themes:

  • Arts and Culture.
  • Community Issues and Events.
  • Conservation, horticulture, and biodiversity.
  • Environmental.
  • Education and training.
  • Health, sport, and human services.
  • Historic buildings and heritage.
  • Homeless, housing, and hardship.
  • Public services.
  • Service charities.

The Trust often awards grants of up to £5,000 per year over three years. Occasionally the Trust will award grants of £15,000 per year over three years but rarely awards more than this.

Applications for grants under £1,000 can be submitted all year round and are processed outside of scheduled meetings. Applications for grants over £1,000 are available at trustee meetings that take place three times per year. For applications over £10,000, the project will probably require a visit from an assessor or a member of the Trust Staff Team.

The next deadline for applications for over £1,000 is 20 August 2025
