Mayor's Opportunity Fund - Community Foundation North East and Point North

Grants are available to local not-for-profit organisations based or working in 'mission critical' areas of County Durham, Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside and Sunderland  to support community-led places and spaces within high streets or physical community hubs that meet people's day-to-day needs whilst also helping to connect people to opportunity, improve skills, digital access and health outcomes, and reduce child poverty.

The total fund for the current round is £225,000 with grants of between £5,000 - £10,000 available. Match funding is not required.

Priority will be given to:

  • Constituted community groups and charitable not-for-profit organisations with an annual income below £500,000
  • Groups working in the most socially and economically disadvantaged parts of the NECA region - for Sunderland for this round the priority neighbourhoods are Hendon & Docks and Town End Farm.

Examples of eligible projects include (but not limited to):

  • Connecting those that need help with the services that they require (e.g. benefits or financial advice, grass-roots business support, health support, skills provision and employment and digital inclusion support).
  • Reducing the day-to-day impact of poverty on people's lives through providing access to foundational goods and services (e.g. social supermarkets, community cafes, affordable food, meals or clothes).

Application deadline is 7 July 2025 for notification in mid-September.
