The Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced that out of its investment of £900 million to support sport across the UK, at least £400 million will be invested in new and upgraded grassroots sport facilities in local communities across the country which will help to promote health, wellbeing and community cohesion.
The funding will also help work to remove the barriers to physical activity for under-represented groups, such as women and girls, people with disabilities, and ethnic minority communities.
DCMS will be working closely with sporting bodies and local leaders to establish what each community needs and then set out further plans.
The £900 million is part of the Government's Plan for Change. More than £500 million will go to support delivery of world class major sporting events hosted in the UK over the coming years, including men's UEFA EURO 2028, men's and woment's Tour de France Grand Départs 2027, the European Athletics Championships 2026 in Birmingham. The full press release can be read on the GOV.UK website.
Specific funding opportunities will be reported on as they are announced.
