Postcode Neighbourhood Trust - North of England - Announces Changes for Round 3

The Trust has published its funding guide for Round 3 which opens for applications on 25 September for a 12-day period.

There are a number of key changes:

  • A multi-year approach to flexible grants, offering three years of funding.
  • An increase to the overall amount an organisation can apply for. Organisations can now apply for up to £50,000 across a three-year period.
  • Applicants must now be one of the following organisation types and have an income of between £10,000 and £1 million in the most recent financial year:
    • Registered Charity
    • Community Interest Company (CIC) with an asset lock (Schedule 1 and 2 only)
    • Community Benefit Society
  • The organisation's main activities must be focused on one of four funding themes:
    • Preventing or reducing the impact of poverty.
    • Enabling participation in the arts.
    • Supporting marginalised groups and/or tackling inequality.
    • Improving mental health with a focus on organisations that are actively supporting specific mental health issues, rather than general mental wellbeing activities.

Given that funding rounds are consistently oversubscribed, priority may be given to organisations that meet one or more of the following:

  • Have an income of £250,000 and below.
  • Work in communities located in the top 15% of English Index of Multiple Deprivation.
  • Organisations whose main activities are focused on supporting marginalised groups. This could include, but is not limited to, disabled people, communities experiencing racial inequity, and LGBT+ people.
  • Are in areas that have not recently received funding.

The unrestricted multi-year funding is designed to offer flexibility and long-term support to strengthen the organisation and deepen their impact.

Please note: the Trust has also developed new partnership programmes to support the following groups who were previously eligible to apply but are no longer eligible under the new guidelines:

  • Constituted Voluntary Organisations
  • Companies Limited by Guarantee
  • Registered Charities and CICs with an annual income of below £10,000
  • Sports groups
  • Environmental Groups

Information on applying to the new partnership programmes will be provided when it becomes available.

The updated funding guide for Round 3 and a new example application form can be found on the Trust's website. Groups may want to consult these before applications open.

Round 3 will open for applications at 9am on 25 September and close at 12 noon on 6 October 2025.
